Couple Years of Protection
CYP is the estimated protection provided by contraceptive method during a one year period based upon the volume of all contraceptives sold or distributed free of charge to clients during the period. In essence it measures the number of protection from pregnancy by contraceptive method over a one-year period. CYP is calculated by multiplying the quantity of each contraceptive method distributed to clients by a conversion factor to yield an estimate of the duration of contraceptive protection provided per unit of a method. Because its calculation is based on distribution figures, it allows us to estimate coverage by different contraceptive methods.
Why CYP
It is an acceptable standard metric for measuring progress in providing access to Family Planning methods. It is a way to measure the volume of program activity.
It is also used to measure our service delivery by methods across the regions of the country and to ensure equitable distribution of methods to allow for user choice.
